Overview
We are blessed beyond measure to be able to be part of a vibrant Campus Ministry. With outreach to the campuses of Florida State, Florida A&M and Tallahassee Community College we have access to tens of thousands of people who are preparing themselves to better serve humanity in some capacity. There is no limit to the number of places they will serve or the lives they will touch. This built-in mission field/missionary training ground allows us to effectively spread the gospel by simply reaching those students who are willing to hear the good news of Jesus.
The purpose of the Campus Ministry is to help students become passionate about following Christ in every aspect of their lives so the they may grow to love everyone, to worship God and to seek the lost. It’s a mission that is grounded in God’s will for all His people and will serve many lives for many years to come.
This Ministry serves under the banner of Ambassadors for Christ (AFC) which allows open access to the three campuses as well as recognition by the three administrations.
The Leaders
God has truly blessed Meridian Woods and AFC with Brennan Hughes. His energy and leadership provide countless opportunities for students of all ages to become better servants. He is assisted in his work by Tony Bidwell and Dennis Schubert along with several students who have stepped into various leadership roles.
What’s needed
There are MANY opportunities for service with the Campus Ministry. From adopting a student to providing direct funding for rent at the AFC House there is never a dull minute. Often students are in need of furniture, jobs and housing, so your scouting abilities can be put to use. There are very often needs for financial scholarships so that students can attend various retreats and mission efforts.
Brennan leans heavily on the Campus Ministry Advisory Committee for help. Of course there’s always room for more members of that committee, so make it known that you’d like to be part of that committee. And you’ll find yourself busy before you know it.
What’s coming up
As you might expect with young people who are full of energy there are very few days of the week that don’t have something happening in the Campus Ministry. A few examples of the things that are already planned are two weeks of Spring Break activities that include the teens from Meridian Woods and other church groups. Many of the students will be attending the Sonshine State Experience retreat scheduled for March 28-30th. Each week features student led study and support groups meeting in various places around the campuses and the city.
Summer missions are being planned with opportunities in Ukraine, Mexico and Bible camps a little closer to home. The Fall season will feature a Campus Ministry Alumni Reunion.
Other activities will focus on integrating High School Seniors into the Campus Ministry so that the shock of leaving High School will be lessened. Additionally there are efforts being made to better meld the groups from the various campuses and churches that are represented in the student bodies of those campuses. With the recent addition of an Intern on the Florida A&M campus this task should become easier to accomplish.
Each Sunday night finds several of the students meeting for worship at the AFC House. This time of fellowship and sharing allows for a unique and meaningful worship where everyone feels welcome.
With all the plans and dreams that are being made and realized there’s no reason this ministry won’t grow. Your continued support in prayer, energy and financial help will ensure it continues for many years to come. |
