Overview
The goals of these ministries are so closely intertwined that we cannot look at them as individual ministries. While Mission Monday is an attempt to reach the spiritual lives of members and visitors alike, Involvement seeks to make sure that our members, and long term visitors are connected to the body in such a way that they are both productive and happy.
The Mission Monday Team is made up of a large number of volunteers who contact those who are visitors to our assemblies and greet members and visitors at the entrances to our building. But they also spend time in focused prayer on behalf of members who are hurting or are pulling away from the congregation and for visitors who have indicated a special need or desire.
The Involvement Ministry collects information that is provided concerning talents, desires and needs and puts individuals in contact with Ministry Leaders in those areas of service. The overall goal is to ensure that people who want to be active in the body at Meridian Woods have that ability.
The lines between these two ministries blur quickly as periodic Newcomer Luncheons provide information about the congregation and various ministries but also ask for a commitment from the newcomer to be involved in various aspects of the life of the Meridian Woods family.
The Leaders
God has blessed our involvement ministry with a very special leader. Jeff Douglas takes the overall responsibility for these ministries. He is assisted by many who give their time and energy to make sure we are aware of specific circumstances and needs as well as keeping touch with those who are drifting.
What's needed
There are a host of needs in these two ministries. Each one is labor intensive but each one provides a unique opportunity to make relationship connections with current and potential members as well as visitors to our assemblies.
There is always a need for people to act as official and un-official greeters. Whether it's at the entry doors or in the surrounding pews we must make a concerted effort to reach out to those who have chosen to come and visit with us.
Opportunities abound for follow-up with visitors as well as members in need. Whether through a telephone call, personal visit or post card there must be ongoing contact in order to assure a welcome feeling and a true connection with the body.
Our Monday night meetings are a time of prayer and discussion on behalf of those who are missing or who have come to spend time with us. We can always use more people approaching God in prayer as we work to build up the body at Meridian Woods.
We are also always in need of people to input attendance data into the computer, serve as spiritual mentors and help with newcomer luncheons.
What's coming up
There will be several newcomer luncheons throughout 2009. Additionally, our Monday night meetings will continue as times of focused prayer and assignment for ongoing contact.
There is never a shortage of work in either of these ministries as we strive to become the church that God has called us to be. Please prayerfully consider your talents and desires and find a place to serve with Mission Monday & Involvement. |
