Overview
"Even when I am old and gray, do not forsake me, O God, till I declare your power to the next generation, your might to all who are to come" (Psalm 71:18). With that as their mission statement the Pacesetters group is busy working toward closer relationships and greater service at Meridian Woods.
They are striving to use the talents and abilities that God has given them to build up and serve the body of Christians that meets here and to reach out to the surrounding community. Through shared wisdom and understanding gained through their walk with God they have made themselves available for counsel, encouragement and example for those who are just now building their families.
Many would say that these "more mature" members have slowed down and stepped aside. But the truth of the matter is that many of them are more involved now than they ever have been.
As was pointed out recently, "we believe there is no retirement from the work of God. The longer we walk in His footsteps, the stronger we become. The longer we focus our eyes on Jesus, the clearer our vision becomes. The longer we read and listen to His word, the keener our hearing becomes. We celebrate life within this body of Christians because we know we have a purpose in God's plan.
The Leaders
Charlie and Linda Lingo are the contact people for the many activities this group is undertaking. With their enthusiasm and energy it may be hard to keep up with all the events planned for our members with white hair.
What's needed
Involvement in the activities that are planned is the most pressing need in this ministry. If you'd like to have more information about this ministry, have some ideas or want to get involved in any way, please let the Lingo's know via your attendance card or by talking with Linda or Charlie.
What's coming up
Activities planned for this year include hospital and shut-in visitation, helping in the Facilities ministry, assisting in the area of Benevolence, providing Shoe Boxes for His Kids Too ministry, giving assistance to Roberta's kinds in Haiti and families in need through Judy Henderson. Additionally we'll be adopting a Military Member for sharing Scriptures, prayer, notes and special treats as well as collecting coats and blankets for the Homeless Shelter and household items for the Children's Home in Valdosta, GA.
Fellowship activities will include a visit to the Grand Ole Opry in Sopchoppy, FL, theatrical events, meals in homes or restaurants, game nights and day trips to area events. All of these are designed to help us be better servants and to help achieve the Meridian Woods Mission of Reach UP, Reach IN and Reach OUT.
Additional opportunities
There is an ongoing need for help in the preparation of communion for our Sunday morning services. This privilege involves preparing and cleaning the communion trays each week and washing them with soapy water once each month. Of course, the preparation of the trays and the elements used in communion must be done before our worship begins. Linda Lingo is the contact person for this activity and can use any and all helpers.
Whenever there is a death or sickness in one of our families we provide food for that family. Because these are usually unexpected events we need people who are willing and able to act in a short amount of time to provide what is needed. If you can help in this area of ministry please contact either Linda Lingo or Dean Folsom. |
